CRASH INTO POWER POLE CAUSES OUTAGES, CLOSES YUCCA GRADE THIS MORNING

A single car crashed into a power pole in Morongo Valley early this morning, causing power outages in scattered areas throughout the Morongo Basin and that blocked the westbound lanes of the Yucca Grade for about 2 hours. The CHP said the crash occurred at 4:12 this morning in Morongo Valley at State Route 62 and Sundown when a Toyota Prius left the roadway and hit the power pole. The driver suffered serious injuries was taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. The crash left power lines hanging close to the road, so one westbound lane is closed while Southern California Edison replaces the pole. One westbound lane and both eastbound lanes are open.
