COUNTYWIDE SEX OFFENDER SWEEP NETS 27 ARRESTS

A sheriff’s operation to ensure sex offenders compliance with their terms of release has netted 27 arrests during the last two-months. San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies along with State Parole agents, County Probation officers, and officers from local police departments fanned out around the county making compliance checks as part of a national program known as Operation Broken Heart.
Of the 27 arrested, 11 were taken into custody for allegedly violating their terms of parole, four were arrested for allegedly violating the terms of their probation, three were arrested for narcotic-related offenses and nine were arrested for misdemeanor and felony warrants.  All 27 were booked into a San Bernardino County Jail. During the two-month operation, more than 700 registered sex offenders were checked on. The checks verify home addresses while allowing authorities to conduct parole and probation searches of those sex offenders if they’re on felony probation or parole. More than 80 officers conducted 52 probation searches, 132 parole searches, and 542 compliance checks during the operation. The checks also found 42 of the registrants had moved from their registered address taking them out of compliance with their terms of release. The operation also found 369 registered sex offenders were compliant. Just Wednesday, a Texas sex offender, living in Yucca Valley, was arrested after students found pornography at a school bus stop. Ricky Lee Colgrove, 60, was arrested on suspicion of distributing obscene material, and possession of child pornography, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with bail set at $255,000.
