COUNTY SUPERVISORS REPEAL 14 COMMUNITY PLANS

Following a public hearing at Tuesday’s meeting of county supervisors in San Bernardino, the board voted to repeal 14 community plans used to guide development in unincorporated areas and replace the plans with more generic, weaker Community Action Guides. Reporter Mike Lipsitz fills in some of the details…

Supervisors heard a presentation from Land Use Services recommending adoption of a new Countywide Plan and Community Action Guides and repeal of the community-specific plans that have guided development in 14 unique unincorporated communities since 2007. A half dozen speakers, most with ties to the Morongo Basin Conservation Association, highlighted weaknesses in the proposal, claiming it will stifle community input in future development. They urged supervisors to reject it. Third District Supervisor Dawn Rowe distinguished herself as the one board member with an understanding of the concerns raised in the public hearing. She cast the dissenting vote, losing to the four other supervisors who adopted the resolution.
