COPPER MOUNTAIN COLLEGE REVIEWS POLICY ON FREE SPEECH AND WEAPONS

The Copper Mountain College Board of Trustees approved a weapons policy at their regular meeting Thursday, in which it prohibits firearms on campus. In another policy decision, the board set aside the grass area in Quad III as an area for students to exercise their free speech rights. Reporter Eric Knabe fills us in on the rest of the meeting…

The board’s open session begin at 3 p.m., biology professor Paul Delaney presented two of his students from desert studies program. Using wireless transmitters, the student have been monitoring the tortoises for the last four months, gathering enough data to put together their first map of the tortoise reserve. There are up to 24 tortoises now on the reserve, with three outfitted with transmitters. The bleachers in the Bell Center gym will be in by the first local basketball game, set for November 1. The bid for bleacher installation was approved and well as the contracts for the athletic trainers of the men’s and women’s basketball teams.
