COPPER MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BOARD TO GO TO DISTRICT ELECTIONS

How the Copper Mountain College Trustees will be elected in the future was one of the items approved at yesterday’s regular meeting.

Assignment reporter Ernest Figueroa has the highlights…

At yesterday’s meeting of the Copper Mountain College Board of Trustees, the approval of a resolution establishing trustee election districts was a significant “first step” in responding to state wide challenges regarding the California Civil Rights Act moving from at-large elections for the selection of trustees to an area election method.

At the standard departmental reports, this year’s Minerva Hoyt National Park Intern and CMC student Yanina Adao shared her research on the Joshua Tree early bloom of last October.

Also long time employees Diana Morris of human resources and Ralene Wharff of base programs were both honored with a retirement celebration.

All proposed contract agreements including those for three vans for the basketball teams; a renewal of the agreement with Unity Home; and contracts for firefighter academy consultants were easily approved. Similarly, employee appointments and curriculum adjustments were passed with a special mention on the inclusion of Cultural Anthropology as a new major.
