COPPER MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BOARD MEETS: LOW ENROLLMENT, FLOYD SCHOLARSHIPS

The Copper Mountain Board of Trustees met yesterday in one of their last regular meetings before the 2020-2021 school year. Cassidy Zimarik offers this report…

The Copper Mountain College Board of Trustees met yesterday in regular session. The virtual meeting began on an energetic note with the board raving and thanking the Town of Yucca Valley for naming CMC a Hometown Hero. Superintendent and President Daren Otten stated that the honor is mostly due to CMC’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

CMC is still reporting low fall enrollment, a common occurrence at colleges around the country, to which CMC has responded with an aggressive marketing campaign.

Other highlights of the meeting include how to board will work with staff, students, and faculty to best support them in the coming academic year and progress on awarding the George Floyd Scholarship to at least two students of color this coming fall.
