COPPER MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BASKETBALL RESULTS

It was a barn burner inside the Bell Center Friday night as the Fighting Cacti men’s basketball team took on visiting Santa Ana College, and won, 89-87.
It was a battle of the shooters in the first half as both teams went back and forth, shot for shot. Santa Ana took a slight lead going into the half 50-49. CMC came out in the second half fired up and clicking on all cylinders. Great defense and execution on offense allowed Copper Mountain to gain a lead by as much as 12 points in the 2nd half. Santa Ana wouldn’t go away quietly, as they made tough three-pointer after tough three-pointer to tie the game at 87-87 with just 6 seconds remaining. Freshman guard Jaleel Simmons received the inbound pass and drove the distance of the court and hit a fade-away jumper to win the game 89-87 for the Fighting Cacti.
Ronald Bell led CMC in scoring with 16 points. Jaleel Simmons scored 15 points, Jailen Moore netted 14 points, and Rosemond Alexis added 10 points to the victory. Copper Mountain stays undefeated at home and improves to 19-9 in the year and 6-5 in Orange Empire Conference play.
Next up is the inaugural season home finale, Thursday night, February 15, against Saddleback College inside the Bell center. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.

The Copper Mountain College Lady Fighting Cacti basketball team welcomed Fullerton College to the Bell Center Friday night, and lost, 79-30.
Coach Hosie Ward said, “In a late-season conference game, tired legs and minor injuries greatly contributed to a very slow start, as we found ourselves down 33-11 at halftime. Coming out for the second half, we showed a lot of heart by fighting back and staying positive. However, in the end, we ran out of gas.”
The final score was 79-30. Despite an injured shoulder, Courtney Stanford led with 13 points. Tusitusia Brown fouled out midway through the fourth quarter, but not before she scored 11 points, grabbed 17 rebounds, and had five blocked shots. The Lady Fighting Cacti go on the road on Tuesday to face Santa Ana College, and finishes the regular season at home versus Orange Coast College next Thursday at 5 p.m.
