CHP REPORTS HOLIDAY WEEKEND ACTIVITY

The California Highway Patrol held a maximum enforcement period over the July 4 holiday weekend, focusing on speeding violations, seatbelt use, and drunk drivers. During the four-day period of July 3 through July 6, CHP Officer Joan Griffin said the Morongo Basin CHP made five arrests for driving under the influence, compared to eight arrests last year. There were no fatal crashes in the Morongo Basin either this year or last year. The Inland Division, which covers San Bernardino to Death Valley to Mount Whitney, made 125 DUI arrests, compared to 147 last year, with no fatal crashes this year, and four fatalities last year.
