CHP OFFERS $27 MILLION IN GRANTS TO COMBAT IMPAIRED DRIVING

When California voters passed Prop 64 in 2016 to legalize cannabis, the act mandated the state set aside funding that the California Highway Patrol would disperse to local governments and nonprofit organizations to educate, prevent, and enforce impaired driving laws. The California Highway Patrol has $27 million in grants to award this year to local governments and non-profit agencies to educate the public about the dangers of impaired driving. The funds can also be used to fund efforts to remove impaired drivers from the road, and to advance research into impaired driving issues. Funding for the grants comes from taxes on the cultivation and sale of cannabis. The CHP will hold a virtual workshop on Wednesday, January 6, to answer questions about the application process. Applications will be accepted from January 7 through February 23 for programs beginning on July 1. For more information, visit the link below.
