CALIFORNIA’S TAX BURDEN

Tax returns are due Tuesday, and Californians’ taxes are high but not, it turns out, the highest in the land. That’s the conclusion of a personal-finance website called Wallet-Hub which recently released a report ranking the states based on the size of their state and local taxes. At the top of the list was New York with a whopping tax burden of 13.04%. California was listed as the 10th highest in taxes with a still-hefty 9.57% total tax burden. And way down at the bottom of the list was Alaska with a tax burden of only 4.94%. Don’t look now, but there may be a run on bobsleds soon.
