BATTLING COUPLE BOTH ARRESTED FOR FELONY SPOUSAL ABUSE

Two Twentynine Palms residents were arrested Friday, following a fight in which they beat each other up. According to a Sheriff’s report, Mariela Martinez, 28, and Shawn Weems, 27, got into an argument in the 73700 block of Raymond Drive about 6:30 p.m. that became physical when Martinez hit Weems and threw objects at him. Weems retaliated by punching Martinez. Both received scratches and lacerations in the altercation. Shawn Weems was arrested for spouse abuse, booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $50,000. Mariela Martinez was also arrested for spouse abuse and on a $25,000 warrant for child abuse, booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, with her total bail set at $75,000.
