BACKLOG BUMPS UP SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY COVID-19 TESTING NUMBERS, LATEST LOCAL STATS

The number of people tested for coronavirus in San Bernardino County rose by 7,903 on Sunday (Sept. 27), more than any single day total to date, but it was due to a backlog that was recently entered into the system. The county is poised to move into the stateā€™s less restrictive red risk tier on Tuesday, if its case numbers and positivity rates meet state criteria. Data released by the state last week shows the county has been testing an average of 153.5 people per 100,000 residents, below the state median of 216.4. The county also reported 92 more confirmed coronavirus cases on Sunday, and no new deaths.

Here in the Morongo Basin we have had 479 confirmed cases and 27 deaths: Joshua Tree, 96 cases and three deaths; Landers, 10 cases and one death; Morongo Valley, 43 cases and one death; Pioneertown, two cases; Twentynine Palms, 87 cases and one death; and Yucca Valley 241 cases and 21 deaths.

The average number of new cases over the last seven days, 287, jumped up from 138 Friday after a state data correction added 500 more cases Saturday. Both averages are well below the peak seven-day averages of new cases, which were in the 700s for more than half of July.
