AUDITIONS FOR “THE WIZARD OF OZ” ANNOUNCED AT THEATRE 29

Take a trip to the Emerald City at Theatre 29. Open auditions for the musical “The Wizard of Oz” are set. With the details, here’s Rebecca Havely…
Director Gary Daigneault, with musical director Bill Barrett, will cast approximately 22 performers, ages 12 and older; some age exceptions may be made. Auditions will be held Monday, January 15, at 6 p.m. at Theatre 29. Singing roles available include: Dorothy, age 18-25, with a strong singing voice. The Scarecrow must be very flexible with dance experience. The Scarecrow, Tin-Man and Cowardly Lion are all baritones 18-40.
Glinda, the Good Witch is 25+ and may be doubled with the role of Auntie Em. Miss Gulch, who is also the Wicked Witch, is 25+ with some singing.
Non-singing roles include: Professor Marvel who also plays Wizard of Oz; he’s 40 or older. Uncle Henry and the Oz Guard are 50+.
A strong dancer is needed for the Jitter Bug character.

An ensemble of six male and six females from 12 to 18+ will play talking trees, Munchkins and Flying Monkeys. Come dressed to move and expect to read from provided scripts and be prepared to sing approximately one minute of a Broadway or Disney song.

Please bring a CD, portable music player, or cell phone with the background track for your audition song. “The Wizard of Oz” will rehearse weekday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. through March 1. Bring known conflicts to auditions for the period January 16 through April 1, in case of a holdover weekend. No a capella singing please, and no songs from “The Wizard of Oz.” Cast members do not have to be the actual ages of the characters, but must be able to look age appropriate and act accordingly. If you have roles in mind, please indicate them on your audition form. If you do not, you will be automatically considered for all roles.
