An opening art reception will be held at the Old Town Gallery and Gifts in Yucca Valley from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 15. Featured artists are painters Janis Commentz and Esther Shaw, with live music provided by Dana Larson. Both Commentz and Shaw have shown on the Hwy 62 Open Studio Art Tours, and in galleries in the Hi-Desert and Inland Empire. They were also part of the original “Six Chicks” Art Gallery in Joshua Tree. The Old Town Gallery is located 55922 29 Palms Highway in Old Town Yucca Valley.

Gallery 62 in Joshua Tree will hold an opening reception for its new exhibit Saturday, May 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. The May exhibit, “In Hexie’s Shadow,” named for the Hexie Mountains in Joshua Tree National Park, runs through May 29, and features sculptors Eric Banas and Simi Dabah, painters Zara Kand, David C. Green, and Patrick Webster, and digital images by Ray Yeager. In the Signature Gallery are Penelope Benson-Wright with her assemblages from found objects, and ceramic artist John Greenfield. Gallery 62 is located at 61607 Twentynine Palms Hwy. Suite H in Joshua Tree. The gallery is open Friday 2-5, Saturday 9-4, and Sunday 12-3.
