AFTER TWO POSTPONEMENTS, DECISION ON ALTA MIRA PROJECT EXPECTED TOMORROW

In one of the longest running meetings in recent memory, tomorrow’s 9 a.m. meeting of the San Bernardino County Planning Commission picks up where it left off at the March 24 meeting, which was already a continuation of the March 17 meeting. Continuations such as this wouldn’t normally attract much attention. But because the future of the proposed 248-unit Alta Mira gated development will likely be decided tomorrow, local interest in the proceeding is extraordinarily high. At the last meeting, the Commission heard from the developer and about two dozen area residents opposed to the project. Public comments were closed just prior to the meeting’s continuation, so when the topic come’s up again tomorrow, the Commission will likely go right into deliberation then vote on the matter. And although public comments will not likely be heard, the public is invited to watch the meeting live from the first floor Teleconferencing Center in the County Government Building on the highway at Whitefeather Road in Joshua Tree.
