ACCUSED KILLER OF ERIN CORWIN IN COURT, DEATH PENALTY STILL CONSIDERED

Wearing handcuffs and an extra-large green jumpsuit, Christopher Lee made another appearance in Joshua Tree Superior Court Tuesday morning. His time before Judge Rodney Cortez was short—just long enough for his attorney to request a date in March for a preliminary hearing. Prosecutor Sean Daugherty told the judge the district attorney still has not decided if the state will pursue the death penalty against Lee. Cortez set aside two days, March 4 and 5, for the prosecution and defense lawyers to present their motions and for the prosecution to present evidence and testimony to convince the judge there is probable cause to hold Lee for trial for murder with special circumstances of lying in wait. Lee, 25, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Erin Corwin, 19, whose body was found in August at the bottom of a mine shaft east of Twentynine Palms, seven weeks after she went missing from her home on board the Combat Center.
