A SPATE OF BURGLARIES IN JOSHUA TREE

At least seven Joshua Tree residents reported burglaries Monday and Tuesday. According to Sheriff’s reports, a neighbor was notified by a security company about 3 p.m. Monday that a burglar alarm for a home in the 5800 block of Sunset Road had been activated. The neighbor saw that the back door had been kicked in and a window broken. About4:30, deputies responded to another burglar alarm in the 6900 block of Hollinger Road and found that the front door had been forced open and the interior had been ransacked. Then, about5:45 p.m., a resident in the 61400 block of Alta Vista Drive arrived home to find a strange vehicle parked in his driveway. As he walked around the house, two suspects jumped a chain link fence and ran off. The responding deputy located three laptops in the open desert near the home. On Tuesday, burglars kicked in the front door of a home in the 7000 block of California Avenue and stole a laptop. A home in the 62700 block of Sullivan Road had its front door forced open and the home was ransacked. The front door of a home in the 63700 block of Hollinger was kicked open and the home ransacked. And a home in the 7000 block of Alturas had the front door kicked open; a television was stolen and the house ransacked. At least three of the burglaries are linked, and arrests have been made.
Deputies made a follow-up investigation to a residential burglary in Yucca Valley and went to the 61500 block of Palm Vista Drive in Joshua Tree, where they contacted Christopher Harris, Dawn Demaray, and Tara Palkman. Harris and Demaray were found to be in possession of stolen checks and credit cards. Christopher Harris was on felony probation and had multiple misdemeanor warrants for his arrest. Harris was arrested for investigation of possession of stolen property and possession of a dirk or dagger with his bail set at $25,000, and on a no-bail probation hold. Dawn Demaray was arrested on suspicion of burglary, with her bail set at $25,000. Tara Palkman was arrested for investigation of narcotic-related offenses and was cited and released.
