8TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT RECOUNT STOPPED, NO CHANGE

An 8th Congressional District candidate who finished third in the June primary ended a recount he had requested. Philip Liberatore of Lake Arrowhead brought the 24-precinct recount to a halt just three hours after it began Friday morning, said county Registrar Mike Scarpello. Officials at the San Bernardino County Registrar’s Office had gotten through six precincts before Liberatore ended the recount, held at Liberatore’s expense. Friday’s recount cost Liberatore $11,335 and would have carried an additional $6,000-per-day cost if more time was needed to finish. After six precincts, Paul Cook gained two votes and Brad Mitzelfelt gained one vote. The top vote-getter among the 13 candidates in the new district, Gregg Imus, will face Assemblyman Paul Cook, in the November general election.
