MORONGO BASIN AMBULANCE TO TAKE OVER M.B. HOSPICE ASSETS

When Morongo Basin Hospice announced earlier this year that it would be closing its hospice operations, it also said it would be looking for another non-profit to acquire its assets. Dan Stork reports that a takeover by the Morongo Basin Ambulance Association is almost a done deal…

In a conversation on Monday, Morongo Basin Ambulance Association (MBAA) General Manager Ramon Lomeli told Z107.7 that he began talking to Hospice Executive Director Robin Ruggeri about acquiring Hospice assets soon after the June announcement of its impending disbanding. The MBAA plans not only to take over the office space and thrift store operation of the hospice, but expects also to provide a corporate umbrella under which volunteer-staffed hospice counseling operations can continue. Lomeli said that the process has been taking longer than he expected, because there are a lot of government-required procedures that must be followed when one non-profit acquires assets and operations from another. He could not give a date on which the new arrangements will be formalized.
