20TH ANNUAL MORONGO BASIN ORCHID FESTIVAL THIS WEEKEND

This weekend, October 3 and 4, marks the 20th year of the Orchid Festival in Landers. The festival, held at Gubler’s Orchids, 2200 Belfield Boulevard in Landers, will feature tethered hot air balloon rides on Saturday for only $10; get a bird’s-eye view of the desert! Also Saturday, a fireworks show is set for 7:45 p.m. On both days, wander through the greenhouses on your own or on a free guided tour, look at the art show, enjoy a wine and cheese tasting, and live music. But the Orchid Festival is more than music, food, and orchids; it’s a charity event that raises money for local non-profit organizations. Managing editor Tami Roleff explains…

Over the last 19 years, the Orchid Festival has raised and distributed over $200,000 to various charities and non-profits. Attendees are given “Rotary Bucks” when they make a purchase, which they then give to the organization of their choice at the festival. These Rotary Bucks are then translated into dollars for the organization. The best thing about the Orchid Festival is, the tours, art show, music, orchid classes, and fireworks are all free! The Orchid fest runs from 9:30 to 8 Saturday, and 10 to 3 on Sunday.
