A popular spoken word fundraiser, “Live from Joshua Tree: An Evening of Desert Stories and Songs” will feature stories, poetry, and songs by unique members of our communities. Reporter Rebecca Havely has more about the event and how to get tickets…

“Live from Joshua Tree: An Evening of Desert Stories and Songs” will feature stories, poems, and songs by Turiya Autry, Erika Castellanos, Caryn Davidson, Keegan Jennings Goodman, Ruben Martinez, Cowboy Pete Mcleod, Jonathan Maule, Melissa Spurr, Jesika Von Rabbit, and Eric Wilson. The event is set for Saturday, January 18 at the Joshua Tree Retreat Center sanctuary. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7. The event will benefit Mil-Tree, a non-profit organization that works to bring military and civilians together through the arts. Tickets, which are sure to sell out quickly, are $20 to $40 and can be purchased at mil-tree.org.

WORK STARTS MONDAY ON BLACK ROCK CAMPGROUND

Joshua Tree National Park’s Black Rock Nature Center in Yucca Valley will be undergoing construction from January 6 through March 5. The nature center will be open its regular hours during this time, but construction may close off areas near the building, including some parking spaces.

MUSICAL REVUE “COMPANY B-ON THE AIR” AT THEATRE 29

Theatre 29 is preparing to open their 2020 theatre season with “Company B-On the Air” an original musical revue written and directed by Ben Costello. With your invitation here’s reporter Rebecca Havely…

“Company B—On the Air” is a tribute to the golden age of radio with songs and great comedic bits reminiscent of the era. Playwright/Director Ben Costello and John Babrowski play the comedic duo, “Slats Smith and Wilbur Brown.” Dennis “Easy” Boos plays the radio announcer. Songs in the style of Frank Sinatra, Kate Smith, Bing Crosby and the Andrew Sisters will come to life with the large cast of over 20 singer/actors made up of Theatre 29 veteran favorites and newcomers as well.

“Company B-On the Air” runs two weekends only, January 10-11-12, and January 17-18-19. Friday and Saturday nights at 7 p.m., Sunday matinees at 2:30. Tickets are $10 to $15 and are available at theatre29.org or by calling 760-361-4151.

HI DESERT WATER DISTRICT SPECIAL BOARD MEETING

First, the board of directors for the Hi-Desert Water District will begin the meeting with pubic comment. Then, the directors will go into closed session with legal counsel over one potential case of anticipated litigation. Finally, the directors will discuss the general managers performance evaluation. Monday’s special meeting begins at 7:30 a.m. in the district offices at Inca Trail and Highway 62 in Yucca Valley.
