9TH ANNUAL GOURD ART FESTIVAL COMING TO YUCCA VALLEY

Mark your calendars for the ninth annual gourd art festival, set for November 18 and 19 at the Yucca Valley Community Center. The free event will feature gourd artists and crafts vendors from all over southern California. In addition to the holiday shopping, there will be classes taught by renowned gourd artists and a raffle on Sunday of gourd art. The gourd festival is 9 to 5 Saturday, November 18, and 10 to 2 on Sunday, November 19. For more information, call the Yucca Valley Chamber of Commerce at 760-365-6323.

TECH HELP AVAILABLE FOR SENIORS

Need help setting up your cell phone, tablet or other electronic device? Want to learn how to text or set up a Facebook account? Can’t figure out how to download pictures from your camera or cell phone? A team of tech-savvy teens from the Town of Yucca Valley Youth Commission will be available 1 to 3 p.m. on the third Friday of the month through March at the Yucca Valley Senior Center to answer your questions and help you with your technology needs. No appointment is necessary. The cost is $2 at the door.

TOYS FOR TOTS COLLECTING DONATIONS

An annual tradition for the Marine Corps Reserves is gearing up in our Morongo Basin area. Donations of toys and money are now being accepted for Toys for Tots. A toy collection box is here in the Z107.7 studio in Joshua Tree and at other businesses throughout the Morongo Basin. To donate money, or to sign up to receive a toy, go online to toysfortots.org. Money donations are used to buy toys for children. Not one donated dollar goes to pay for salaries or any other manpower costs.

EMPTY BOWLS BENEFIT FOR REACH OUT MORONGO FOOD BAN

The Empty Bowls Benefit combines delicious home-made soups and breads made by local cooks, served in beautiful hand-made bowls made by local artists. The non-profit event will take place on Sunday, November 19th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Center for Healthy Generations in Yucca Valley. The $20 per-person donation includes the meal and the hand-made bowl, which you can keep. Line tokens will be handed out starting at 3:45 p.m, the first to arrive get first pick of a bowl. All proceeds go to the Community Food Pantry of the Morongo Basin and the 29 Palm Community Food Pantry. For additional information, contact Amara Alban via email.

DONATE SUPPLIES FOR NO-KILL ANIMAL SHELTER

The Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Department is accepting donations of pet food, cleaning supplies, blankets and other pet-related items for donation to the Morongo Basin no-kill animal shelter in Joshua Tree. The shelter especially needs dry dog and cat food, all kinds of puppy and kitten food, cleaning supplies and pet bedding. New and gently used donations are welcomed. All donations will be brought to the shelter during Thanksgiving week. The Sheriff’s station is located on the highway next to the courthouse in Joshua Tree.
