BOARD MEMBERS SOUGHT FOR COMMUNITY ACTION PARTNERSHIP

The Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County is looking for new members to serve on its board of directors. The Community Action Partnership is a non-profit organization that serves over 800,000 low-income residents through programs such as Energy, Education, and Environmental Services, Family Development Program, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, and the Food Bank. The board is made up of 15 volunteers who represent the private sector, low-income residents, as well as five elected officials. Board meetings are held in San Bernardino at 11:30 a.m. on the third Tuesday in January, March, May, July, September, and November. The Town of Yucca Valley aquatic programs will begin Monday, June 19, at the community pool at the high school on Sage Avenue. Swim lessons are held in the morning; each session is eight classes for $45. Registration opens at noon on June 5, either in person at the community center, or online at yucca-valley.org. Drop-in programs include fun swim, family swim, lap swimming, and water aerobics. All drop-in programs are $4 per person, per visit; or $3 per visit when a swim pass is used. ASSEMBLYMAN CHAD MAYES TO HOLD OFFICE HOURS IN YUCCA VALLEY MONDAY

District staff representatives for Assemblyman Chad Mayes will hold office hours at the Yucca Valley Community Center Monday, June 5. Staff representatives will be available from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Mesquite Room to answer questions and help residents with any issues they may have with state government. Mayes encourages residents who are not able to make the drive to his main district office in Rancho Mirage to attend the mobile office hours in Yucca Valley.

Sky’s The Limit is offering an Astronomy Class on Wednesday, June 28, and July 26. Participation is limited to between five and10 adults, which includes college and high school students. The cost is $20 per person. The class begins at 7:15 p.m. with a walking tour of the Orrery – a model of the inner planets from Mercury to Mars at a scale of 20 billion to 1, followed by a PowerPoint presentation on the basics of astronomy. Hands-on instruction at the dome using different types of telescopes and binoculars will provide a personal tour of the night sky. The evening will conclude with an extended look through Sky’s The Limit’s large, 14-inch Celestron telescope. The Observatory on Utah Trail is just outside the north entrance to Joshua Tree National Park in Twentynine Palms. You’ll be able to experience the oils and see for yourself how many uses they have. Classes are set for 11 a.m. Monday, June 5, 12, 19 and 26; 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 7 and 14; and 1 p.m. Thursday, June 22.
