BRING CHILDREN, DOGS TO EARTHFEST IN JOSHUA TREE APRIL 15

EarthFest Joshua Tree is a family and earth-friendly day celebrating kids, animals and the planet! The free event takes place 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 15, in the courtyard at Art Queen at 61855 Twentynine Palms Highway in Joshua Tree. The day’s activities include a Mutt Strut, where children can introduce their dogs on the stage at Art Queen; and a Green Carpet walk, in which children can take the stage and show off their animal and nature themed clothing. A National Park ranger will give a presentation on protecting desert tortoises. Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for both people and pets, and a there will be a recycling station for plastic. For more information, visit

REGISTER NOW FOR EASTER EGG CRAFTS, HUNT IN YUCCA VALLEY

Kids are invited to the Yucca Valley Center for Change in Yucca Valley to decorate Easter eggs and then hunt for them. Play attire is suggested, as glue and marker pens will be used. The Easter Bunny may also make an appearance. The Easter egg event is set for Friday, April 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. Reservations are requested by April 7. Call Tonya Linde at 760-369-1074. Monday, April 10, is the last day to pay the second installment of property taxes to avoid a 10 percent penalty. You can do it in any of several ways:
Online, at www.MyTaxCollector.com
Over the phone, by calling 909-387-8308
Either online or on the phone, you can pay from a checking or savings account, or by credit card. (There is a convenience fee for using a credit card, but not for using a bank account.)
If you choose to pay by mail, payments must be postmarked on or before April 10 to be considered on time.

RETIRED TEACHERS MEET NEXT WEEK

The local chapter of the California Retired Teachers Association will meet Friday, April 14, at 10:00 a.m. at the Helen Gray Center on Whitefeather Road in Joshua Tree. Members will welcome Cheryl Erickson, who will speak about her recent trip to Uganda and the orphanage there with which she works. Lunch will be provided at a cost of $15 per person. Reservations are required. There is no cost to those who attend the meeting but choose not to order lunch, but seats do need to be reserved for those who attend but do not dine. Please call Gay Smith, at 760-369-2211, no later than Monday, April 10, if you plan to attend.
