District staff representatives for Assemblyman Chad Mayes will hold office hours at the Yucca Valley Community Center Monday, February 6. Staff representatives will be available from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Mesquite Room to answer questions and help residents with any issues they may have with state government. Mayes encourages residents who are not able to make the drive to his main district office in Rancho Mirage to attend the mobile office hours in Yucca Valley.

High School music students are invited to compete in the Rotary Club of Yucca Valley’s annual music competition, set for 7 p.m. Saturday, February 18, at Yucca Valley High School. Contestants must be high school or home-schooled students from the Morongo Basin. Contestants may enter in one of three categories: vocal, instrumental, or piano. Pianists and instrumentalists must play at least one piece of classical music. Singers must perform songs from musical theater or classical music. Cash prizes will be awarded: $200 for first place, $100 for second place, and $50 for third place. The top three contestants will advance to the semifinal competition for a chance to win an additional cash prizes ($1,000 for first place, $500 for second place and $250 for third place). California Retired Teachers Association will meet Friday, February 10, at 10:00 a.m. at the Helen Gray Center on Whitefeather Road in Joshua Tree. Members will honor past presidents of Hi-Desert Division 62 and will welcome Rob Breyer, Director of CalRTA Area 9. Members for whom 2017 marks their eightieth birthdays or beyond will also be honored. Lunch will be provided at a cost of $15 per person. Reservations are required. There is no cost to those who attend the meeting but choose not to order lunch, but seats do need to be reserved for meeting attendees. The Tri-Valley Little League is holding its second annual Cupid Scramble Golf Tournament Saturday, February 11, at Hawk’s Landing Golf Club in Yucca Valley. Teams of four will have a shotgun start on 12 holes, starting at 8 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for a hole in one, longest drive, closest to the pin, and there will be chipping and putting contests as well.
